SA Police Officer Of The Year 2025

CONGRATULATIONS go to Constable First Class David Brown, named by Club President Rhonda Hoare as the winner of the Rotary Club of Unley, SA Police Officer of the Year Award for 2025. This award was established in 1978 in partnership with SAPOL to recognize outstandingservice of police officers to the community and has been running for 47 years. It is a community-based award where nominations are sought from the general public and organisations all over the state. It looks for officers who exceed the requirements of duty, volunteer in a significant way to give back to the community with courtesy, courage, kindness, understanding and compassion. This may be in the face of tragedy, trauma, natural disasters, or community development.

Senior Constable First Class David Brown (David) is stationed in the Murray Mallee Region belonging to the Murray Bridge Crime Prevention Section since 2021.
He initially joined SAPOL in 2008, stationed in Port Pirie, serving later in Adelaide and then moving to Murray Bridge.
David was widely supported for the Award with four community members submitting nominations covering many aspects of character, community involvement and professionalism.
Through their submissions we learned of David’s devoted involvement with Neighbourhood Watch (A very important part of SAPOLs’ focus on crime prevention and avoidance) and other Organisations where his enthusiastic initiatives have resulted in many meaningful community support activities.
To highlight a few:
Overseeing a successful amalgamation of Neighbourhood Watch groups in Murray Bridge
Leading an initiative to set up a Little Book Swap Library at a local supermarket
Participating in camps that have built lasting and meaningful relationships with First Nations people
Organizing and participating in activities under the Blue Light banner such as the Blues Light Boxing program
Positively promoting SAPOL through school visits including preschools even down to the three year old level
Involvement with the local Drug Awareness Team
Involvement in the Murraylands Youth Network Sector
Working with Rotary and Lions with their programs such as Shelter Packages
Recently joining the parent governor council at Murray Bridge South School helping to shape kids futures and future community leaders.

Even when off duty David Brown continues to serve his community. His significant volunteer work reflects his deep-rooted belief in the power of community connection.

David does meet so many of the attributes we look for in the community contribution made by a Police Officer and thus is a very worthy winner of the SA Police Officer of the Year Award for 2025.
