Merry Christmas and all that jazz

Here we were assembled with glittering decorations from our Thrift Shop....the crackers and pull things worked a treat (obviously freshly bought). Rhonda Hoare greeted us and provided a quiz about Christmas which needed extensive use of Google to get right......although some of us did rather well with the Christmas Carol lines with the help of Reno. Mine host Tony De Ieso delivered a superb meal. Some of us had the opportunity to advise our local member and Minister for Industry and Skills David Pisoni on how to run government and Briony took full advantage....see below. It was pleasing that President Trevor was advised by Stephen the Younger on how to open a meeting.....see also below...but he forgot to tell the Prez how to close it.

Our thanks to Rhonda and her team for organising the event......but what happened to Santa Claus, the presents and the Christmas fireworks!

 

The editor was going to say.... a fitting end to the year...……..but we still have the Bunnings BBQ on New Year's eve!

A great night with over 700 people. We began with the tolling of the St Augustine's church bells [organised by Anne Ford] and performing monkeys for the kids. Then on with the Nativity and Carols entertained by two marvellous singers [Eliza Dickson and Marcus Baricelli], Concordia College Choir and the fabulous Unley City Band led by Brian Griffiths. Father Christmas distributed bountiful gifts. Catering included face painting, streamers, ice-creams, bbq'd sausages and chicken patties, popcorn and coffee.

  We can't put your timing for your recent support besides exactly that!     MIRACLE!. The Chrismas hope we need more than ever to bring encouragement & hope.

This Christmas we can feed the village & bring gifts, games, carols  to for those in needs. 
Like many  world wide, we are extremely busy leading up to Christmas in preparation for Christmas for our Village.
 
However after festive season we are back in form. 
We will keep you up to date re pics of building repairs, receipts, & New programs we have in January to teach     music class.
All in motion now....thank you for bringing transformation &  hope consistently in our humble  village your kindness is humbling & an     example of unity to human needs worldwide. We are immensely grateful for   your interest & heart in our small but significant journey for the  hope of future generations in  our small village.

We hope we can always partner      alongside with Unley Rotary.
Forgive us for we have nothing in return to   offer but our prayers for Unley  Rotary Club success in generations ahead.

Rotary recognizes UK Prime Minister Theresa May with polio champion award

Rotary honored Theresa May, prime minister of the United Kingdom, with the Polio Eradication Champion Award for her leadership and political support toward ending polio. 

Rotary International President Barry Rassin presented the prestigious award to Alistair Burt, the UK minister of state for international development and minister of state for the Middle East, at a roundtable discussion on polio eradication on 27 November in London, England. 

Rassin told Burt, who accepted the award on May’s behalf, that the UK has repeatedly demonstrated an unwavering commitment toward a polio-free world. 

Under May’s leadership in 2017, the UK pledged about $130 million to the GPEI for 2017-19, bringing the country’s cumulative support for polio eradication to $1.6 billion — second only to the United States. May has also been a strong advocate for other countries in the G-20 and G-7 to maintain their financial and political support for a polio-free world, Rassin said. 

“The UK remains committed to reaching our goal of eradicating polio and ensuring that no child suffers from polio again,” Burt said. “We are very proud of the contribution we have made to setting polio on the road to becoming history. I want to take this opportunity again to thank all those involved in the fight against polio, especially those on the ground working in incredibly difficult circumstances, and Rotary colleagues all around the world who have helped us reach this point.”

Rotary established the Polio Eradication Champion Award in 1996 to recognize heads of state, health agency leaders, and others who have made significant contributions to ending polio. Past recipients include Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari, and former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.

One Christmas morning, a cop on horseback is sitting at a traffic light, and next to him is a kid on his brand new bike.

The cop says to the kid, "Nice bike you got there, kid. Did Santa bring that to you?"

The kid says, "Yeah."

The cop says, "Well, next year tell Santa to put a tail-light on that bike."

The cop then proceeds to issue the kid a $20 bicycle safety violation ticket.

The kid takes the ticket and before the cop rides off says, "By the way, that's a nice horse you got there. Did Santa bring that to you?"

Humoring the kid, the cop says, "Yeah, he sure did."

The kid says, "Well, next year tell Santa to put the dick underneath the horse, instead of on top."
