President Trevor's Announcements

President Trevor opened and closed the evening and revelled in the fact that there were no announcements.

Fun and Frolics....

An evening away from the norm.  A chance to enjoy some light entertainment and to socialise with friends.  President Trevor played compere and  we had ballroom dancing from Fay Reid and partner Roman, Zumba from Aarti and Jeevika Nagpal, tall stories from David Middleton, Brendan Kenny and John Peacham.  Alongside a polished performance of song and jokes from Dave. A song "en Francais" from Sorel Coward.

A paper plane throwing competition capped the evening off with some designs that Boeing would have rejected and some that despite the odds flew long distances.

It was all, as designed, a night of fun.  Congratulations to President Trevor for all his work in putting this together.

Holger Knaack selected to be 2020-21 Rotary International president

Holger Knaack, a member of the Rotary Club of Herzogtum Lauenburg-Mölln, Germany, has been selected to serve as president of Rotary International in 2020-21.

The Nominating Committee’s decision follows the resignation last month of President-nominee Sushil Gupta due to health reasons. Knaack will officially become president-nominee if no other candidates challenge him by 31 May.

To build a stronger membership, Knaack says Rotary must focus on increasing the number of female members and transitioning Rotaractors into Rotarians.

Knaack believes that the People of Action campaign offers new public awareness possibilities for Rotary. “This campaign conveys our global image while still respecting differences in regions and cultures,” he says.

A Rotary member since 1992, Knaack has served Rotary as treasurer, director, moderator, member and chair of several committees, representative for the Council on Legislation, zone coordinator, training leader, and district governor.

He is an endowment/major gifts adviser and co-chair of the Host Organization Committee for the 2019 Rotary International Convention in Hamburg.

Knaack is the CEO of Knaack KG, a real estate company. He was previously a partner and general manager of Knaack Enterprises, a 125-year-old family business.

He is a founding member of the Civic Foundation of the City of Ratzeburg and served as president of the Golf-Club Gut Grambek. Knaack is also the founder and chair of the Karl Adam Foundation.

Knaack and his wife, Susanne, are Major Donors to The Rotary Foundation and members of the Bequest Society.

A Gift of Reading:RCWWD's Reading Clinic for Grade School Level Children

Davao Philippines Philippines

The reading clinic is a bridging program implemented in public schools every summer and further needs intervention from the private sector for which RC Waling-Waling would like to address through the "Gift of Reading" program.

Beneficiaries will be students from grade levels three to seven under ages 9 to 13years of age attending school at a public institute in Davao City. The club will initially be targeting two public schools, one located in the south and the other in the north. It will benefit at least a hundred students per module implemented every summer break which is two months.

Since the project will be a collaborative effort between the club and its partners (school administrators & the Dept. of Education), overseeing the project will be a joint endeavor. RC Waling-Waling will be responsible for maintaining this project as this will already be a signature project of the club.

In case contribution goals are not met in full, all acquired contributions will be utilized in the said project by prioritizing the immediate needs of the beneficiaries (students) and for the club to allocate available funds sourced internally.

The Tale End.……

A man comes home and yells joyfully: “Honey I won the Lotto! Pack your things for a nice big vacation!”
She asks: “Awesome! Should I pack for warm or cold weather?”
Man beams: “I don’t care. Just be on your way already!”

A centipede kid says to his centipede mom in a shoe shop:
Remember mom! This time no shoelaces please!!

Wife: “It’s our wedding anniversary in a week, darling. How do you think we should celebrate?”
Husband: “With a minute of silence.”

Women call me ugly occasionally. But that’s only until they hear how much money I make.
Then they say I’m poor and ugly.

Father: “Son, you were adopted.”
Son: “What?! I knew it! I want to meet my biological parents!”
Father: “We are your biological parents. Now pack up, the new ones will pick you up in 20 minutes.”

The police stop an old guy in questionable condition at 1 am.
“What are you doing out so late, sir?” asks the police officer.
“I’m going to a seminar on ‘The harmful effects of alcohol’,” replies the man.
“Are you pulling my leg or something?!“ says the police officer, „who would hold a seminar like that at this hour?!”
The man sighs, “my wife.”
