SA Police Officer of the Year 2009
Senior Constable Michelle Hollis
Senior Constable First Class Michelle Hollis became, on 4 May 2010, the 32nd South Australia Police Officer of the Year selected by the Rotary Club of Unley.
Suburban Police Officer Michelle, who has served with SA Police for 18 years, was nominated by the City of Salisbury in recognition of her high standards of professionalism, her devotion to duty and her skilful handling of complex and difficult cases with humanity.
She has been praised for her work with high risk students with behavioural problems, her active involvement with local primary and secondary schools, effective anti-graffiti campaigns, housing trust tenancy issues, neighbourhood watch, and liaison with the State Government. She is already a recipient of the National Medal and the South Australia Police Service Medal in recognition of her ethical and diligent service to the community of South Australia.
Michelle gives freely of her time if called upon when off duty, is effective in her efforts, and ‘will not take a backward step’ when under pressure. She displays ‘humour, understanding, communication skills, community participation and ability to relate to everyone’. Michelle is ‘an excellent role model for Police in this State’.
This is the second year in a row that the winner has come from the Elizabeth Local Service Area, which is perhaps the most testing of areas in the State.
