His left foot is now straight and he is starting to weight bear on it. It is anticipated he will be returning to Vanuatu in early February. Colin Twelftree will be telling us about Dental volunteering in Vietnam. In 2019 after for almost 25 years, the leader of our South Australian Dental Team, Dr Colin Twelftree OAM stood down due to his retirement. . His accomplishments in the field of dentistry in Vietnam are unparalleled. Colin participated in the CMF before being called up and subsequently posted to Vietnam. Following his National Service, he later re-joined the CMF. In 1996, Colin, with a colleague made his first Dental Aid trip to Vietnam. Jointly they extracted 600 teeth to relieve pain!! Later a Dental Clinic was established in Long Tan and Colin devised a plan to make sure every child within the immediate area would start life with a healthy set of permanent teeth. A goal that was accomplished. He then extended the service to cover the Long Hai and Vung Tau areas. |

Lion Hearts learning
![]() Codee-Jo had theatre monthly, bloods regularly, IV chemo every few weeks and when her bloods were low, she had to stay clear of others so she didn’t get sick, we really started to feel the need for social and educational learning for her.
Because children with cancer often have to be isolated from others as their immunity is so low, they cannot go to childcare, kindergarten or school when this happening. For oncology kids the age of 2 to 5, there were little opportunities in South Australia for them to access social and educational opportunities that are germ free and safe for them to play. From here, Lion Hearts Learning was born. |
