Rotary Action Group for Addiction Prevention
Sep 10, 2024 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Speaker:   Jo Baxter

Come and hear from Jo, our member about the Rotary Action Group's Activities.

Substance abuse and addiction of illicit drugs is a global problem and can only be addressed by the joint efforts of all worldwide organizations including governments.

In a combined, structured and sustained action, the mission of the Rotarian Action Group for Addiction Prevention is to strengthen those efforts by organizing an international group of Rotary specialists and activists to develop constructive plans of action to be used to initiate prevention of addiction and illicit drugs.

Within Rotary the group will work to inform, stimulate, support and advise clubs and districts how to tackle the problem in a structural long-term manner, with vision and a strategy. They will offer Rotarians a quarterly newsletter, website and opportunities to interact and share ideas for awareness and prevention at conferences and conventions.

Kissing the Frog
Sep 24, 2024 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Speaker:    David Middleton

Come and hear our own member David talking about investing.A completely unique guide to investing your hard-earned loot, Kissing the Frog translates the mystifying language of money into the language of classic fairy tales and nursery rhymes. the Butcher, the Baker and the Candlestick Maker are perfect mentors for identifying a profitable business and buying shares as investments, while Old King Cole is the perfect tale to simplify the benefits of direct investment versus mutual funds. Meanwhile, the three Little Pigs know all there is to know about building up a property investment portfolio! the myth of investing is simplified with a little fairytale magic.

Leanne's region (Adelaide South)  encompasses 17 council areas from Prospect to KI.

Dental volunteering in Vietnam
Feb 18, 2025 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Colin Twelftree will be telling us about Dental volunteering in Vietnam.

In 2019 after for almost 25 years, the leader of our South Australian Dental Team, Dr Colin Twelftree OAM stood down due to his retirement. . His accomplishments in the field of dentistry in Vietnam are unparalleled.

Colin participated in the CMF before being called up and subsequently posted to Vietnam. Following his National Service, he later re-joined the CMF.

In 1996, Colin, with a colleague made his first Dental Aid trip to Vietnam. Jointly they extracted 600 teeth to relieve pain!!

Later a Dental Clinic was established in Long Tan and Colin devised a plan to make sure every child within the immediate area would start life with a healthy set of permanent teeth. A goal that was accomplished. He then extended the service to cover the Long Hai and Vung Tau areas.

We are Lion Hearted
Feb 25, 2025 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Lion Hearts learning
Lion Hearts LearningFounders Jolyn Phillips and Matthew Townsend found themselves at a loss in 2017 when their daughter Codee-Jo was diagnosed with Leukaemia.
Codee-Jo had theatre monthly, bloods regularly, IV chemo every few weeks and when her bloods were low, she had to stay clear of others so she didn’t get sick, we really started to feel the need for social and educational learning for her.

Because children with cancer often have to be isolated from others as their immunity is so low, they cannot go to childcare, kindergarten or school when this happening.

For oncology kids the age of 2 to 5, there were little opportunities in South Australia for them to access social and educational opportunities that are germ free and safe for them to play.

From here, Lion Hearts Learning was born.
