Salvation Army's Emergency Response Centre
May 14, 2024 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Speaker: Reno Elms

The Salvation Army has spent years working with people affected by crisis or disaster, helping them get back on their feet.

The Salvos say:-

We understand that disasters and emergencies have a destabilising and traumatic impact on those affected. No one should have to go it alone, so when a disaster strikes, we're ready to meet people at their point of need.

The very nature of disasters and emergencies means that people have very little time to prepare, and often need fast and immediate help. Our emergency support workers can provide immediate financial and practical assistance with no long forms to fill out or waiting periods.

When the emergency is over, we remain with communities to provide longer-term support through services that reflect the needs of the community. This long-term support can mean many months, and even years, of holistic care for those affected.

Salvation Army Care for the Homeless
May 21, 2024 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Speaker: John Bauer

The Salvation Army is one of the largest providers of homelessness services across the country. They provide services to adults, and families with accompanying children. Their services include accommodation, case management, assertive outreach support, financial assistance, together with connection and referral to other specialist services. Their philosophy is that every person is afforded dignity, respect and quality of service and that no one should be without a safe, affordable and secure home.

Homelessness can affect anyone - it doesn't discriminate. People find themselves in unstable home situations that can range from uncomfortable to distressing and dangerous. Services, such as theirs, try to help people experiencing homelessness find a permanent and safe place to live, a positive community connection, and services to help the underlying reasons for the person's homelessness.

John will tell us about his work locslly.

the club will also be donating 10 Shelterbags for use by the Salvos locally.
